“It is clear to us that there is a gap in the UK education system. A huge number of children who need more support than mainstream schools provide, but not as much as special schools typically do, have become the missing middle.
We created Divergent Schools so that these children no longer need to go through the trauma of being in the wrong school, or having no school at all.
More than that, we have set up Divergent Schools for that this group of children can be part of a quality school which is just right for them.
Giving our pupils a small specialist environments which feel calm and safe, with access to some mainstream facilities, we cater to each child's talents, just as much as to their special needs.
As neurodivergent Co-Founders, we each had our own school experiences which were impacted on by the fact that we learn differently. We have lived this journey ourselves, and spent decades working with many wonderful children with SEND and their families. This means our passion for neuro-inclusive education is deeply felt. We are fuelled by the rights of every child to a school where they are safe, and feel safe. Where they experience compassion every day.
By establishing Divergent Schools as a not-for-profit organisation, we commit to our vision of a school that puts the children it serves first and foremost. We also believe it is important to offer parents and local authorities real value for money.
We are determined to use our presence to champion neuro-inclusion and advocate for better. Follow us for more and to be part of the conversation.“
